My latest small work is of a refreshing waterfall in Deep Creek National Park. Inspired by the work of the great Australian landscape artist, Fred Williams. I've tried to focus on mark making, colours and shapes rather than painting realistically. It was harder than painting as I normally would, and I've probably added more details than I was planning to! I loved the shapes in this painting, of the rocks, and the repeated oval shape of the sky and rock pool.
I remember going to see Fred Williams work in the Art Gallery of South Australia. His work was so Australian and made you feel what the landscape was like. Yet, his trees were not painted perfectly and there were no fine details. I would love to be able to paint like that, so I've taken the opportunity to have a try on some of my smaller works.
The issue I have now is that my exhibition is 61 sections and 61 paintings. At the moment I've got 3 paintings for 2 sections! I need to choose between this one and Tunkalilla Beach for my large artworks. I have decided that I'll definitely include the sunset over Tapanappa campground, but I can not make up my mind between the other two!
What do you think???
