This painting was inspired by the stretch of the Heysen Trail between Kyeema Conservation Park and Dashwood Gully, one of the most tranquil parts of the trail. The track meanders through tall gums and dense undergrowth, where filtered light creates a dappled play of colour on the forest floor.
Through layered brushstrokes and thick textures, I wanted to capture not just the look of the path, but the feeling of walking it — the scent of eucalyptus, the soft rustle of leaves, and the peaceful solitude that comes from being surrounded by nature.
Kyeema to Dashwood is part of my Heysen Trail series, a body of work exploring the diverse landscapes of South Australia through painting. Each piece reflects a moment on the trail — a pause to look, breathe, and feel deeply connected to place.
The smaller original has gone to a very special home, but prints are still available!
