I knew the first hurdle was coming even before I started this project. I was thinking, do I start or prolong it until I'm better? I decided to start and get things ticking along. I've already walked to Cudlee Creek, so while I'm recovering I can plan some of the paintings I will do for the first sections! And then after I've worked out what I'm going to paint using the smaller canvases I can get cracking on the larger ones and by then I should be better and walking weather will be on us again!
So, the hurdle is my ankle. A day ago I had surgery to mend it and now I'm laid up on the couch with no weight bearing for two and a half weeks!
Recently I had the trip of a lifetime, travelling for 6 weeks around Europe. It was fantastic, except for the part where my ankle kept giving way. I actually fell over a number of times including the steps in the Louvre (humiliating). It was aching and fat and just not fun when walking over 10km a day sight seeing.
On my return home I went to the physio to see what could be done. He sent me straight to a sports doctor who then sent me straight for an MRI. The results weren't great. It seems that many years ago I broke my ankle, and never got it fixed (I suspect it was a session of Just Dance on the Wii after a couple of drinks). Anyway, I had a large bone fragment floating around, and due to several sprains later, my ligament had decided to attach to that instead of the main bone. Hence, the instability! On top of this is seems that I cracked and broke off the cartledge on the other side of my ankle and that bone was filled with fluid and forming a cyst!
Long story short, hopefully it's all better now! A few weeks of recovery and rehab and I should be back on my feet ready to tackle that trail!
