Myponga to Mt Compass - This stretch of the Heysen Trail rolls gently through hills, open farmland, and wide views that seem to go on forever. It’s the kind of walk where the landscape feels softer and slower, with a patchwork of green paddocks and winding tracks leading you steadily toward Mt Compass. The smaller painting I have completed for this section has you standing on a hill, looking across the farmland to distant hills. Painted in an impressionist style with lots of texture. It's been nice to have a go at a landscape that isn't the coastline and push myself in another direction.
Mt Compass to Kyeema - I highly recommend staying at the caravan park in Mt Compass. Great facilities and a welcome site after a long day of walking! This part of the Heysen Trail opens out into wide grassy paddocks, with soft rolling hills stretching into the distance. It is the kind of place where you can feel the breeze moving through the grass and take in the gentle rise and fall of the land ahead. It felt a little bit 'Sound of Music' as we were crossing the paddocks! A little warning though, quite a bit of cow poo to navigate! I chose to paint the open landscape rather than the narrower bush tracks, as there are plenty of those to come!
